Josh’s roots run deep in the Idaho wilderness. As a fifth-generation Idaho native, he has a deep passion for everything our state has to offer. His professional guiding career began in 2008, and since then, he has packed, guided hunts, led pack trips, and taken riders through the rugged beauty of the Seven Devils, Sawtooth, and White Cloud mountains. An experienced horseman, Josh jumps at any chance to be in the saddle—there’s not much that beats a week in the backcountry with the sound of bugling elk.
Josh, along with his wife Ashley and their two daughters, spends their free time embracing the magic of the outdoors. Whether it’s teaching their kids to hunt, fishing as a family, or riding horses together, their lives revolve around adventure.
Josh and Ashley have worked side by side in many capacities over the years. Ashley has played a vital role in hunting camps, providing delicious meals for hunters and guides, packing guests into remote locations, and leading riders on pack trips and trail rides. She is also an experienced horsewoman, skilled in working with all types of horses and cherishing time in the saddle with her daughters.
Their family is thrilled to welcome you to the Sawtooth’s and help make your next adventure unforgettable!
Scott Proffitt, an Oregon native turned Idahoan, has spent a lifetime immersed in the great outdoors. From camping to fishing, hunting to guiding, the wilderness is his second home. By profession, he works as a Lineman for the majority of the year, affording him the flexibility to dedicate 2-3 months each fall to guiding and packing hunters through the rugged terrain of Idaho.
With extensive experience in the Salmon River, Hells Canyon, and The Selway regions, Scott is well-versed in navigating the wilderness and ensuring memorable hunting experiences. He commands a pack of expertly trained hounds, adept at tracking bears, mountain lions, and even the occasional raccoon.
Scott's passion for horsemanship runs deep, cultivated since his high school days. Over the years, he has honed his skills in breaking and training both horses and mules for riding and packing purposes. His commitment to mastery led him to attend the Royal Tines Pack class, where he expanded his knowledge and refined his techniques for maintaining a successful pack string.
For Scott, there's no greater joy than being amidst the mountains, astride a trusty mule or horse.
Ian has been exploring Idaho’s mountains and waters for over 30 years, with plenty of hunting, fishing, and backcountry adventure under his belt. He’s harvested multiple branched bulls on DIY public land hunts and in the Sawtooth Zone—both archery and rifle—and has “Dad guided” more than 30 successful deer and elk hunts for his crew (which includes his 11 kids—yes, 11!). When he’s not chasing game, Ian and his family love backpacking and fishing deep into the Sawtooth Wilderness, making memories in some of Idaho’s most incredible places.
